Just askin'. :P
When was it you experienced such "stopping"?If it was peak hour, the train in front would have caused it to stop.

It's very common to experience this during peak hours eg. morning, lunch time and evening time. Most likely the signal is red. The lights in the tunnel (sometimes) will be turned on to let TO have a better view of what's ahead.

no not that. there are a lot more possibilities:
1. e-brake to 0, then immediately accelerate again
2. e-brake to 18, then accelerate again to 39 or below
3. brake to between 18-39 (CM) and/or inconsistent braking and acceleration
each type can have multiple reasons too. type 1 is usually due to lightning or speed limit exceeded, which requires OCC to reset and grant movement immediately.
type 2 is usually due to speed code limitations.
type 3 is usually due to CM mode.
there is yellow warning light out of braddell today by the way, so I believe it is due to renovations at Bishan platform. you might want to alight at Braddell and see what it says.
